Hi everyone, my name is Édward. I have been studying Police Technology for 2 years now. In fact, my glossary contains 25 words that police officers use in their police journey. These words are here for people, who want to understand our vocabulary during our work. Also, in this glossary, you will find some definitions, examples, translations, and more. In short, all the words and their definition are from the website and online dictionaries.

Corroborate
Verb
To give support to a theory or finding.
Example: “He corroborated the claim that she was in her home that night”.

Suborn
Verb
To bribe someone to commit an unlawful act.
Example: “He tried to suborn witnesses to speak in his favor”.

Sequester
Verb
To isolate.
Example: “The police officer sequestered the suspect in the local park”.

assailant
noun
a person who physically attacks someone.
Example: The police officer has no firm leads about the identity of his assailant.

Libel
noun
To publish a false statement that damages an individual’s reputation.
Example: “The newspaper committed libel by falsely claiming he evaded tax for the past decade”.

Adjourn
verb
To postpone, often referring to court.
Example: “The trial was adjourned to a later date”.

Bail
noun
Release of an accused person awaiting trial, often after the payment of a fee.
Example: “He was granted bail at a cost of $4,000 and released and was due back in court on 14 September”.

Impeach
Verb
To charge the holder of public office with misconduct.
Example: “The US president was impeached on grounds that he personally profited from his public role”.

Arraign
Verb
To bring to court on a criminal charge.
Example: “She was arraigned on charges of manslaughter”.

Admonish
verb
To firmly warn against someone’s behavior.
Example: “She admonished him for taking drugs when he promised not to do so”.

Reprobate
noun
An unprincipled person.
Example: “He was a reprobate; an individual who had no principles and who acted according to his selfish needs”.

Reprimand
noun
To warn sternly against.
Example: “Mike was reprimanded for consuming too much alcohol”.

The state of being imprisoned.

Telling a lie whilst under oath.

To misappropriate, often someone’s money.
Example: “She embezzled up to $5,000 from the company credit card against the company’s knowledge”.

Collusion
noun
Illegal cooperation between two entities.
Example: “The US president did not commit collusion with Russia as the Mueller report exonerated his involvement”.

Exonerate
verb
To find innocent or free from wrongdoing.
Example: “The court exonerated his reputation and found him not guilty of the crimes originally attributed to him”

The state of being homeless.
Example: “The vagrant moved from street to street each week, never having a permanent place to call home”.

Verb
To kill someone for an offence without trial (often in group form).
Example: They lynched him, hung him up and left him to die.”

noun
Obtaining something, such as money, through force or by threats.

Subdue
Verb
To overcome or to bring under control.
Example: The officer subdued the situation and prevented it from escalating further”.

A bruise.

An inquiry that takes place to establish the facts.
